Unemployment rate dropped to 7.2% in September 2022 quarter: PLFS
Unemployment rate in urban India declined to 7.2 per cent in the September 2022 quarter from 7.6 per cent in the June 2022 quarter, according to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS). The fall in unemployment rate for men was more pronounced to 6.6 per cent from 7.1 per cent as compared to the marginal fall to 9.4 per cent from 9.5 per cent witnessed by the unemployment rate for women. The labour force participation rate (LFPR) inched up to 47.9 per cent from 47.5 per cent in the June 2022 quarter. Participation of women in the labour force increased, while that of men decreased. Employment, depicted by worker population rate (WPR), increased for both, men and women. The WPR for women increased by 80 basis points to 19.7 per cent and that for men increased by 30 basis points to 68.6 per cent. Overall WPR was up by 60 basis points to 44.5 per cent. The survey results are based on the current weekly status (CWS) of employment of urban population of the age 15 years and above.
