PMO cautions to float tenders in sync with public procurement order

Move to boost manufacturing under `Make in India' initiative

by Nidhi Bhati

The Prime Minister’s Office through the DIPP has directed departments, ministries and public sector units to ensure bid conditions specified in the tenders are in sync with the public procurement order favouring the ‘Make in India’ programme, as per a report in Economic Times. In May 2017, the Centre had approved a policy requiring purchase preference to domestic suppliers in all public procurements and 50 per cent of value addition being made locally. During a meet of the Standing Committee for Implementation of Public Procurement Order 2017 held recently, various domestic manufacturers raised the issue regarding the discriminatory bid conditions.
