Trade development council's 3rd meeting to be held on 8 Jan'18

Centre, states & industry representatives to discuss export promotion

by Arjit Singh Bhambra

The third meeting of the council for trade development and promotion will be held on 8 January 2018, as per a report in Hindu BusinessLine. The meeting will be chaired by commerce & industry minister Suresh Prabhu. Centre, state governments and industry representatives are likely to discuss ways to promote country’s exports. The council acts as a platform to develop partnership with states with an aim to boost international trade. The council also provides state governments and Union territories (UTs) suggestions for trade policy thereby allowing them to develop and pursue export strategies in line with the national foreign trade policy. Various export promotion bodies such as FIEO are likely to raise the GST refund issue and problems faced by SMEs. Greater government support for improving infrastructure in order to increase competitiveness of Indian exports in global markets is also likely to be a part of the discussion.
