Government to review current cash surplus position of CPSEs

Firms may have to give out extra dividends or go for buybacks

by Natasha Nadkar

The government has planned a meeting with few blue-chip CPSEs to review their current cash surplus position as against their capital expenditure plans. The firms which have not yet achieved their capital expenditure targets will be asked to give out extra dividends or take the buyback route, as per a government official. Around 17 firms including ONGC, NMDC, NHPC, Cochin Shipyard and RITES will make their presentations in the meeting. The government will focus on pushing those CPSEs which are not performing and have failed to post profits on the basis of their cash parked with banks or such other investments, according to a department of public enterprises official.
