Sick PSUs should be given reasonable revival chances: Parliamentary panel

Niti Aayog must take holistic decision regarding CPSEs

by Natasha Nadkar

According to a report by the department related parliamentary standing committee on industry, sick public sector units should be given reasonable and financially prudent chances to revive and restructure themselves. The committee has asked Niti Aayog to take a holistic decision regarding CPSEs which can progress well with little help. Niti Aayog has recommended strategic disinvestment of five PSUs, transfer to states of four, one for part divestment and two to be considered for disinvestment later. The department of heavy industries will be left with few CPSEs under its administrative control if these recommendations are approved. In another report, the committee has stated that the department of public enterprises should consider a well-organised comprehensive research study to identify business areas where such PSUs can profitably operate.
