Chhattisgarh to get its second airport at Raigarh

Work to commence soon on proposed ISBT in Noida

The state of Chhattisgarh will soon get its second airport at Raigarh. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has granted approval to the proposal and a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) in this regard will be signed soon with the state government. At present, Raigarh just has an air strip, which is used mainly for small aircraft and choppers.

The proposed airport at Raigargh will be built in two phases over 600 acres of land provided by the state government. Of the total project cost estimated to be around Rs.3 billion, Rs.1.6 billion will be spent in the first phase. The airport will become operational by May 2017. Initially, only flights of ATR-72 aircraft, which can accommodate seating of 70 to 80 people will be introduced.

In another key development, AAI has agreed to convert the old terminal building at Raipur into an air cargo centre. However, size of the complex will be decided once the state government furnishes the details about goods likely to be exported from the state.

Projects worth Rs.30 billion were announced during the period 1 May 2013 to 15 May 2013. A few significant projects have been discussed below:

  • Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers Ltd plans to invest Rs.12 billion to set up a plant to manufacture multi layer double coated boards at Trichy. The plant will have a production capacity of 2 lakh tonnes per annum. It will be commissioned by March 2016. Construction work on the project is expected to begin soon. Bids for appointment of a consultant for the project have been invited.

  • Max India promoted Antara Senior Living Ltd has announced an investment of Rs.5.5 billion in a residential housing project for senior citizens at Dehradun in Uttarakhand. The project, spread over 20 acres, will offer 217 apartments with about 50 wellness suites.

    Of the total investment of Rs.5.5 billion, Max India will put in Rs.1.2 billion while the remaining amount will be raised through debt. The project is expected to be completed by December 2014. It will also house penthouses and have facilities for arts and crafts, library, pottery and badminton and tennis courts.

  • A cancer hospital with an investment of Rs.4 billion has been proposed at Aganampudi in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The Centre has sanctioned the required amount for the 100 bed hospital. Mumbai-based Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), a grant-in-aid institution under the department of atomic energy, and Tata Memorial Hospital will monitor the work. The hospital is expected to be ready by May 2015.

  • New Okhla Indl Devp Authority plans to construct an international state bus terminal (ISBT) along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway in sector 144. The estimated investment in the project will be around Rs.2.5 billion. Construction work on the project is expected to begin in June 2013. The terminal spread over an area of 2.20 lakh square meters of land will be completed in two years.

  • VGN Developers Pvt Ltd has announced a Rs.1.3 billion premium residential project on the East Coast Road in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Spread over two acres, the project will offer 80 apartments.

  • SRF Ltd has proposed an investment of Rs.900 million to set up two units having a combined capacity of 2,000 tonnes a year for manufacturing speciality chemicals. The units will come up at the company’s existing chemical complex in Dahej, Gujarat. The project has been approved by SRF’s board of directors.
