Data on the state domestic product (SDP) has been released for the 2012-13 fiscal. The data has been published by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) for twenty of the 32 states reporting this information. The SDP statistics are not available for Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
This data was released by the CSO by the end of April 2013. The SDP estimates for Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are not available for 2012-13.
Till 2010, though the CSO published this information with a lag two to three months the reported amongst states was poor. Several states reporting this information with a lag of one to two years. However, statistical reporting across states has improved significantly in the last few years.
The 2011-12 SDP estimates were available for all states, except Gujarat, by October 2012. Gujarat’s SDP estimates for 2011-12 have been released now in April 2013.
The statistics on SDP signify the total value of goods and services produced within the geographical boundaries of a state during a given year. It includes the contribution of major sectors to the state income. These sectors are broadly classified into agriculture, industry and services. The statistics also reflect the per capita income of a state.
