Uttarakhand assembly election concludes

Records voter turnout of 68%

The assembly elections in Uttarakhand concluded today at 5 pm. Polling was conducted in 69 constituencies spread over 13 districts in the state. Of these, 13 seats were reserved for SCs and two for STs.

A voter turnout of 68 per cent was recorded till 5 pm in 69 constituencies as compared to almost 67 per cent in the same set of constituencies that went to polling in 2012. Of the 628 participating candidates, 60 are females and two are third gender candidates.

Uttarkashi district recorded the highest turnout of 73 per cent, followed by Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts with 70 per cent each. Almora district reported the lowest turnout of 52 per cent.

For the polling of 69 assembly seats held today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress (INC) are contesting on all the seats while Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 68 seats. Polling for the Karnaprayag constituency has been postponed to 9 March following death of the BSP candidate who was contesting for the seat.
